His later Life

Before he was 25, Michelangelo had sculpted the Pietà, which featured Mary holding the dead Christ's body. On the 16th August 1501, he was commissioned to sculpt the David. In 1504,he revealed the statue which had emerged from the 18ft block of marble. In April 1508, he was summoned to Rome to paint the 12 disciples on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The original plans were not good enough for Michelangelo so he changed them and did the creation and the flood which are now so well known. He climbed his ladder everyday for 4 years and seriously damaged his health and eyesight. He died on February 18th, 1564 and left many wonderful things behind him.
